To punch it home, if I had to choose between anchoring in the harbor and going the night without power, or dishing out money to this marina, I would anchor in the harbor without second guessing myself. I just parked in a random open spot. Later heard this Marina has a reputation of being called "Crash"! Very close to Publix supermarket . Rand and his team are amazing. Woke up to having a dredge house the size of a car underneath my yacht. Heads were clean and the dockmaster helped us get on and off the dock, given the strong current the help was needed. Dockhands are very friendly and try their best but they are not trained. My only complaint would be the "resort pass". We will definitely return! They are claustrophobic when trying to get dressed in dry clothes. Mooring balls were in good condition, well serviced and we had no worries of swinging into any other boats. The only suggestion I would make is that paper towel dispensers be installed in the heads. We were 20 minutes out when I checked Dockwa to see if our slip assignment was listed there. I asked when the water would be fixed and they said by the evening. Really convenient to town. We stayed one night arrived after dark, we had two elderly people departing the boat upon arriving, the dock is very long and dark. I would definitely use them again. We had an extremely long walk to the dock that we were at. The boat that was in our assigned B dock slip departed, and we were instructed to return. promptness is lacking in the resort but marina staff are very helpful. I asked the dock boys if I could get some type of refund or something, of course nothing that anyone can do about anything. Nice facility, dockhands very green and need to be taught current and to do what the Captain of the docking boat tells them. Other than that very nice experience. Beautiful new showers, ladies room, nice laundry facilities & a water taxi and free shuttle bus across the river. Also wed read that there was a shuttle to the grocery store and west marine but alas no longer. Easy pump out. Definitely coming back next year. The docks were floating, but just in OK condition. Excellent dock staff w easy fueling behind the breakwater. Lots of commercial action in harbor. At 4:00 he said we are 4th in line. Wicked current coming in though, be careful if its not slack tide! We were unable to contact any appropriate personnel at the marina to determine where we should dock therefore spoke to some near by vessels who stated we would be fine here and to run our power across the dock until the dock crew could handle the next day. Very enjoyable experience!! Keys didnt work to our room 4 different times, took it happening the second day in a row for them to move us to a different roomwhere it happened again. Go find a better place. We told one dockhand to tie down the bow cleat, so we could bring in stern. Safe Harbor Zahnisers slip, dock, mooring reservations - Dockwa Current is wicked here and they wanted to put us in a slip. Just slept over for the night. The current here is intense and they encourage you to arrive at slack tide. It draws an all ages crowd of locals as well as the guests at the hotel and marina. Mooring is rated for vessels up to 45 feet in length. We had the necessities (power, water, and a dock) in a good location for Charleston, but I would say that was about it. However, the expensive resort fee for facilities we didn't use and the fact that we were constantly waked due to boat traffic outside of the marina will probably keep us from returning. Meanwhile, our buddy boat was assigned a slip on C dock, and it also was occupied when they got there. We did not mind the walk from the K dock to the facilities (shower/laundry/restrooms) because it is just beautiful there! Close to downtown too! Food, service and scenic views were terrific. There is a daily resort fee but that allows use of resort hotel facilities. Everything was great. Uber rude to town $20 each way, $30 on 4th of July. After a 4 weeks trip between Plattsburgh NY and Charleston, we can say that this marina is the one we preferred of all of those we stopped. Dock hands were professional. You are required to pay a $38 resort fee, which basically gives you access to a pool and hot tub, which was closed one of the two days we were there. Shower and laundry was very accessible. They only had one working plug along about 20' of dock. Severely under-staffed. We did have some confusion about the pump out associated with the resort fees-had to call 3x- seemed to be a communication and process problem. The Marina has fantastic facilities, nice floating concrete docks, showers, bathrooms, laundry, pools, restaurants, and of course access to the lovely city of Charleston.
